Autumn Antics
Since July the pond has been a peaceful haven for swans Dotty, Eric & their 4 cygnets, almost as big as the adults now, have been spending most of their days paddling, or preening on the grassy embankment, and are now undertaking short trial flights on the pond.
25th Sep: Drama on the Pond AGAIN!! Eric was taken to the SSPCA Wildlife Rescue Centre near Alloa, leaving 1 adult swan, Dotty, on the pond, looking after 4 adolescent cygnets by herself. Eric had a sore leg for some weeks and had been struggling to get in and out of the water, which is why the SSPCA were called. He was taken away for further tests and treatment: he had some x-rays and a small procedure to his injured leg. Here’s hoping for a swift recovery.
9th Oct: Eric was returned to the pond and reunited with his family! Yippee! As the erstwhile governor of California said “I’ll be back !” Sincere thanks to all the staff at the Fishcross SSPCA Rescue Centre who cared for Eric and nursed him back to health.
